Lakes Region Community College jumps on micro-brewing wave with 1-year certificate program

Come January, Lakes Region Community College will join the small but growing number of higher education institutions in New Hampshire, regionally and nationally, that are tapping into the still-hot microbrewing craze.

But while crafting and marketing beers and ales will be a focus of the LRCC program, so will fermenting — wine, mead and cider — something that makes the program unique within the Community College System of New Hampshire.

Jim MacMillan, a world-traveling beer aficionado, home brewer and longtime adjunct professor of photography at LRCC, will teach students during the first half of the program, while Ken Hardcastle, vintner at Hermit Woods Winery in Meredith, will teach the portion on fermentation.
