They're turning a Lighthouse into a Lantern

The new owners of a Lakes Region bed and breakfast with a historic past are confident they can chart a course for a successful future.

David and Shay Doyon purchased the former Lighthouse Inn at the end of January and have been busy putting their own touches on the property. The hilltop home at 913 Watson Road was crafted by the shipwright who brought the current Mount Washington cruise ship to Lake Winnipesaukee in the 1940s.

The Doyons are no strangers to the Lakes Region. They were married at the Castle in the Clouds, the 1914 mountaintop estate of shoe magnate Thomas Plant. They spent their honeymoon in a rented home on Weirs Boulevard.

David, a licensed CPA, has taught accounting at Southern New Hampshire University since 2001. Shay formerly owned a furniture store in Pembroke, but has long wanted to be an innkeeper.

They looked at the property four years ago, but both the price and the timing proved problematic. During a return visit, they discovered it was still on the market and that the price had dropped, so they took the plunge. Read more at
