Hemingway’s fine dining, coffeehouse comes to Exeter
By: Hadley Barndollar

A new venture in an old location, Hemingway’s Restaurant is already offering fine tapas dining downstairs by the Exeter River, and an upstairs late night coffeehouse is still to come.

Though many restaurants in the 69 Water St. space have come and gone, head chef and owner Cheyne Venturini is certain his “literary” concept will not succumb to the same fate.

“I was at the Powder House for a few months towards the end of its time,” Cheyne said. “When the opportunity presented itself to purchase it from the old owner, we wanted to create a different concept from what was here.” Cheyne owns the restaurant with his wife, Jayna. They’ve lived in Exeter for five years.

Cheyne said he felt there were already several places in town offering pub fare, and he looked to go in a different direction.

“We wanted to create a dining option in town where people can sit and stay for a while,” he said. Mentioning the Water Street Bookstore, the Exeter Public Library across the river and A Picture’s Worth a Thousand Words frame and book shop next door, Cheyne called the area of town “the book district.” Read more at SeacoastOnline.com.
