Common Man owner headed to Puerto Rico, raising funds
By: Jean Mackin

A New Hampshire restaurant owner known for his humanitarian work around the world is about to lend a hand in Puerto Rico.

The owner of the Common Man group of restaurants, Alex Ray, leaves for the island Thursday morning.

Ray is traveling with supplies like water filtration, batteries and parts to fix generators, and is hoping that people back home will also help.

“When you see the depth of destruction, the width of it – it’s unbelievable,” Ray said. “And I’m able to take the time to help out.”

Ray said it didn't feel right to go on a planned trip to Italy, so the itinerary changed to Puerto Rico.

In past years, Ray has brought help to disaster zones – like the wake of 9/11, Hurricane Katrina and the massive earthquake in Haiti – creating pop-up kitchens to feed people and even pets.
